824 History

The following was extracted from notes and minutes found in the Nahe Temple Lodge library.

Nahe Temple Lodge Number 824 was originally a part of the German Lodge “Zum Felsen Temple 824” in Idar Oberstein, until the Grand Master of the United Grand Lodges of Germany authorized the English speaking section of the Lodge to conduct business and ritual work in accordance with the constitution and by-laws of the UGLvG.

The first Lodge meeting and elections was held on 4 April 1955 with 26 Master Masons Present. The following officers were elected: Master – WB Charles O. Dutton; Treasurer – Brother James Treadway; Secretary – Brother Garland M Morison.

On 3 October 1955, discussion was held on a new name for the Lodge and the name “Nahe Temple lodge 824” was used on the minutes dated 24 October 1955.

Also, on 3 October 1955, the “Triangle Masonic Club Strasburg Kasserne” and “Acacia Masonic Club Baumholder”, were dissolved and their properties and funds transferred to “Zum Flesen Temple 823”.

At a meeting on 4 June 1956, it was announced, “there are now 16 American Lodges working under the UGLvG and 1 Lodge working under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Texas, USA".

At a meeting held on 13 August 1956 it was agreed to use degree books ordered from the Grand Lodge of California.

On the lighter side: Extracted from the minutes dated 3 December 1956. "There will be no more selling of TV sets during Degree work and smoking during Lodge meetings is not allowed".
